About

Themed Learning Communities

A themed learning community (TLC) is a cluster of courses linked together by a theme attended by the same group of 25 students. This allows students to build close friendships with peers, and connections with faculty. In the TLC, students explore a central theme with experiences in and out of the classroom, forming connections between classwork and their life experiences.

Whether you have a major in mind or are exploring your options, your orientation advisor can help you pick a TLC that will work for your degree program. Each TLC includes a first-year seminar and courses from the list of IUPUI general education core courses, so if you change majors the credits you earn in your TLC can count towards graduation.

What I liked most about my TLC was that we're like a family. We helped each other learn and grow. This really has helped me feel welcomed into this community.
